The weather was pretty nice with high clouds occasionally, pretty warm in the pits until the shadow got on us. There was a confusing wind that affected us heavily at 1000 yards but not at 800 so much. The 1000 yard range at Missoula is cut through tall evergreen forest trees which forms a sort of tunnel and there appeared to be a heavy wind that due to the high trajectory of the bullets at 1000 yards was causing strange wind changes that weren't apparent in the flags as they are down below the trees. This caused excessive up and down and left and right for those shooters that were shooting during the worst of it. The headwind and tailwind were changing back and forth and what was strange was a headwind would push you down but the tailwind was also pushing you down. I think this is because the headwinds were hitting the bullets at the end of their flight but the tailwinds were hitting the bullets at the start of their flight. At least that is what we were experiencing. The later shooters got the best conditions by far. Lots of fun!!! NOTE: If there are any mistakes, please email me and I will fix it. |
